International Airports
The United Arab Emirates is a major travel hub serviced by many major airlines. International Airports are located in a number of centres across the UAE, however to minimize road transportation times, all participants, guests, visitors and VIPs are encouraged to arrive in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi international Airport is the UAE’s second busiest airport. It is the base for the UAE’s national airline, Etihad.
Driving times from UAE international airports to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre are as follows:
- Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) – 24km, 20 minutes
- Dubai International Airport (DXB) – 144km, 1 hour 34 minutes
- Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) – 170km, 1 hour 50 minutes
- Al Ain International Airport (AAN) – 140km, 1 hour 30 minutes
- Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT) – 253km, 2 hours 46 minutes
- Fujairah International Airport (FJR) – 263km, 3hours
All participants, guests, visitors and VIPs arriving at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and Dubai International Airport (DXB), who have provided their travel itineraries to 2011 WRO Organizing Committee through the registration process, will be provided with airport meet and assist services, as well as transport to designated hotels in Abu Dhabi. People flying into other airports, who have provided us with details, will be met at the airport and provided transport to their designated hotels in Abu Dhabi.
Private Jet Airport
Al Bateen Executive Airport is the region's only dedicated private jet airport. It is located close to the centre of Abu Dhabi city and just 5 minutes away from the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. For more information visit the Al Bateen Executive Airport website.
Shuttle Bus Service
A shuttle bus service operating at regular intervals will run between the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and all offsite hotels. Additional buses will operate during predicted demand periods. Buses will operate on a colour coded system and participants, visitors and guests will need to note which colour bus line they require to get to their accommodation.
Taxi Services
Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced in Abu Dhabi. They may be booked through the various taxi companies or flagged down. Taxi’s can be recognised by their distinctive silver livery and yellow roof sign or by white and gold livery and green roof sign.
During daytime hours (6am – 10pm) metered fares in the city start at AED 3 and increase by AED 1 for every kilometre. Night fares start at AED 3.60 and increase by AED 1.20 per kilometre. It is recommended to tip the driver (10% of the fare is reasonable).
A journey from Abu Dhabi International Airport to the city costs approximately AED 65-75. Limousine taxis also operate in Abu Dhabi. Their fares are higher than regular taxis, but are generally very reasonable.
