WRO 2011 Symposium

4th International Symposium on Robotics in Education

The Abu Dhabi Education Council is proud to host the 4th International Symposium on Robotics in Education, on behalf of the United Arab Emirates (host country of the 2011 World Robot Olympiad).

The Symposium will be held on the evenings of the 18th and 19th of November 2011. Each evening will commence with a Symposium Dinner and a guest speaker. This will be followed by the evening’s presentations. Two tracks of presentations will operate each evening.

Aim of the Symposium

The aim of the International Symposium on Robotics in Education is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing the latest advances, improvements and challenges for education where robotics plays a significant role.

The Symposium will serve as a communication platform for school teachers, professors, scientists, researchers and other education professionals, as well as students from around the world. The Symposium welcomes original technical papers addressing teaching, learning and new materials related to education using robotics.

Scope

The Symposium will consist of approximately 18 papers. The theme of the paper should be mostly about (but not limited to) robotics in education in the P/K-12 (pre-tertiary) education sector. Areas of interest include: 

  • novel teaching methodology.
  • new teaching materials.
  • creative teaching.
  • meeting the scientific and technical demands placed on students by post-secondary education, government and industry.
  • the development of student innovation and creativity.
  • the development of student collaborative abilities.
  • the development of problem solving abilities among students.
  • the integration of robotics into regular curriculum subjects.

Language

The official language of the Symposium is English. All extended abstracts and papers must be written and presented in English.

Who Should Present

Teachers and other education professionals and practitioners from the P/K-12 sector, universities and colleges, government and people who are interested in education, teaching and robotics.

Who Can Attend

The Symposium is open to all teachers, professors, lecturers, scientists, researchers, students, education practitioners and professionals, government officers and people interested in education, teaching and robotics.

Paper Submission

Prospective presenters are requested to prepare an extended abstract (500 words). The extended abstract should include: paper title; author’s name and affiliations; and keywords. It should use the “abstract / application template” provided on the Symposium Website. Papers should use the “paper template” provided on the Symposium Website. All papers should be submitted electronically via email.

Out of the submitted papers, 10 papers will be selected and presenters will be provided with return airline tickets (economy class) to Abu Dhabi in order for them to present their paper.

All presenters will be provided with automatic registration to the 2011 WRO and associated events and activities, as well free accommodation, transfers and meals.

  • Full Paper – 3 to 6 pages (following template provided)
  • Presentation time – 20 minutes (including 5 minutes Question & Answer time)
  • All accepted papers must be presented

Important Dates

  • Deadline for extended abstract: 18 August 2011
  • Acceptance Notification: 01 September 2011
  • Camera-Ready (Full) Paper Due: 29 September 2011

Registration Date & Fee

  • Symposium registration closes on the 13th of October 2011. Registration needs to be carried out online via the 2011 WRO website.
  • Symposium Registration Fee –  US$100 (AED 368) General / US$50 (AED 123) Students
  • Symposium Registration is a free of charge option included in the Registration Fee for Participants of the 2011 WRO
  • Symposium Registration includes access to: Symposium Dinners; Symposium Sessions; Symposium Proceedings; 2 nights accommodation and meals.
  • Symposium Participants will have free access to the 2011 WRO.
